Blast crew including helpers and some of the girls

Our good friends from Blast were on it once again the other week with another event; this time a girls only weekend in Porthcawl.

It's always good to work with these guys so already being in the area over the weekend ExPix dropped in to say hello and grabbed a few action pics of the girls. It was a real shame the wind decided not to show but that didn't stop Blast organising some other fun on the water!

ExPix arrived late Saturday night and caught up with the crew in Porthcawl, an evening of food and drink was followed by friendly chats about what might have been if the wind turned up properly and would the forecast actually be wrong and the wind would appear on the Sunday.Parking up outside the Blast centre, making it look more like a caravan park, we got our heads down ready for the following day.

As the curtains opened we saw the start of the Indian summer which swept the country killing any chance of wind for the girls weekend. Undeterred the Blast crew were on the beach by 10.30 and in the water on the SUP's. Now this may sound a bit of a cop out ..... but ... in true Blast style there had to be some fancy dress and the the theme was 'pirate'. We have to say the yacht mooring in the bay must have been slightly worried at seeing a 'boarding party' approaching.

After the fun it as down to what the weekend was about, getting the girls more familiar and more confident on the water. One techniques that several people were keen to learn about was a pack down. This is what you do if you ditch your kite and for whatever reason can't relaunch; you pack it up so you can swim back in whilst using the kite either as a buoyancy aid or, if there is still some wind, you can use it as a makeshift sail to pull you back to shore. Several of the girls found this really useful and being able to 'try' it rather than reading about it is a good way to learn.

So after a few hours of playing on the SUP's and learning pack down techniques, ExPix left the girls sun bathing on Coney beach. If anyone want to know more about kitesurfing, either learning or just wanting to hang out with a good crew contact Marc or Sarah at Blast, they'll be more than happy to show you how it's done.
