La Franqui home of Mondial

Not much has been happening over the last few days, the wind just hasnt materialised however the crowds have been out in force as the sun shines down on the event site. Yesterday saw a SUP race for the kitesurfers before the presentation.

Kevin Langeree won the event for the guys.

So the presentation of the Freestyle results took place in the late afternoon confirming that Andy Yates took his first win in a PKRA event and Guisela Pulido with another win to her already long list.

With no other competitions really getting going we went to watch the bike demo again and got some better images from inside the arena. with backflips flairs and some sick flatland moves the crowds were once again cheering.

We are hoping that tomorrow the wind will allow the Orange Speed Crossing or the European Windsurf Freestyle Tour to happen although the forecast doesnt look promising.

As usual the long drive is an absolute killer especially if you dont take the toll roads.

Visits from the gandarmes to check if I was English ???? and numerous detours due to a sat nav that wasnt up to date meant the drive was much longer  than it should have been. However on arriving in Leuacate we were met with blue skies, and NO WIND...typical! The wind in Leucate is a thermal wind called La Tramontane which comes down from the surrounding mountains. This means even if no wind is forecast there can still be amazing conditions.

The first day started with an amazing sunrise over the event however Leucate didnt produce any wind so ExPix took the time to catch up with old friends and generally take it easy after the long trip down. A quick lifestyle shoot with two up and coming British girls Holly Kennedy and Hannah Whitely (current British Champion) produced some lovely images for the rider section. Once we have some more action shots the images will be added to the girls own rider profiles page so keep an eye out for the rest of the images.

There were quite a few visitors on the first day to visit the event site and trade village and even though there wasnt much happening on the water the crowds were treated to bike displays. We wil try and bring you more images from them as the week progresses. If they werent watching the action, testing out the demo bikes or browsing the stalls there was always the bars and cafes around the event site to sit and chill and watch the day go by.

The end of the day closed almost as it started with a glorious sunset. A couple of local youths were skating on the promenade and our chief photographer Ian Edmondson with nothing much on the camera decided to spend 10  minutes photographing them. We think the images turned out ok for an impromptu sunset shoot.

The following morning and another amazing sunrise claimed the day as the wind started. As we said the wind here is thermic and at 7.00am there was nothing by 8.30 there was a full blown standby with the PKRA riders pumping up 7's.

By 9.30am the competition was in full swing with strong if a little gusty wind. The usual suspects started to show through. With Youri Zoon, Alex Pastor, Kevin Langeree and a surprised Andy Yates in the semi's. Andy Yates was ripping and came up against Youri Zoon in final.

The womens heats saw Bruna Kajiya, Angela Perral, Carolina Winkowska, and Guisela Pulido through to the semi's with Bruna and Guisela fighting it out in the final.

So at the winner presentation for the singles the results were as follows

Mens

Andy Yates

Youri Zoon

Alex Pastor

Kevin Langeree

Womens

Guisela Pulido

Bruna Kajiya

Carolina Winkowska

Angela Perral

The doubles did start but the wind dropped completely and plans are to restart Monday morning with a skippers meeting at 9.30am
